This season has been possible because of a community that comes together for a common cause.
What we are building at Kisasa FC continues to create opportunities for partners to grow with the club. It is a deliberate effort, led by a dedicated team that takes the work seriously, and we are always glad to welcome people who want to help shape what this becomes.
That common cause is creating spaces for young people where strong values take root, as they get the chance to build on their passion. These young men, with the heart to pursue football in a world offering alternatives that could harm their futures, deserve the chance to play, to compete, and to develop, in an environment that takes their effort very, very seriously.
A Growing Ecosystem
Nairobi’s grassroots football infrastructure is growing, opening up long-term potential for young athletes. Clubs like Kisasa FC, at the U12, U14 and U16 age groups, and leagues such as the Diamond Youth Football League, are part of a much larger picture. At this level, sustainability is not a dream. It is a model made real through our structures, our partnerships, and committed individuals, season after season. Attend any Sunday afternoon match and it is hard not to be moved: the stands bristle with families and fans, and the football genuinely keeps you on edge for a full 70 minutes.
Behind the Matchday
This matchday experience is the other half that completes the picture. Weekly training exists, of course, to compete and win the league. However, behind the matchday experience is transport to and from training, balanced meals, and rest, all while our boys juggle school, with coaches, staff and parents arranging it all. Every week it is worth it, proved by the Sunday games. The energy of a matchday should be televised.
Call it idealism, but communities like these can impact lives. It bears some thought: the names we know in football, Messi, Victor Wanyama, Pep Guardiola, Mohamed Salah, any name you can think of, were once young boys connected to a football establishment in their childhood neighbourhood, one that took their passion and their dream seriously.
The Names Behind the Season
We have already felt the support of hearts who believe in this vision. A generous contribution from Mr. Otieno provided parcels of provisions for each of our boys. Collins Ochieng paid for post-match meals worth 3,000 Kenyan shillings. An aunt of one of the coaches contributed a cash gift. Mr. and Mrs. Wambua opened up their home and hosted pre-match meetings. Provided with ingredients, Eunice cooked meals for the boys. Baba Nelbert provided up to 100 eggs for a number of matches. Pauline Odhiambo paid for breakfast at pre-match meeting sessions. To name a few.
You may not recognise these names, and that is not the point. They have meant the world to Kisasa FC’s ongoing evolution.
These tangible items carry an unspoken, simple message: there are people out there who intend to support you in becoming the best version of yourself.
