Kisasa FC came through a tense Matchday 7 fixture with a 2-1 win over WSH Elite at St. Mary’s Grounds on Sunday, a result that secures the side’s place in the upcoming playoffs.
Two goals in the closing stages of the second half - from Ryan and Taji - were enough to see off a WSH Elite side that pulled one back late but couldn’t find an equaliser. Moses started in goal, with a back line of Lawrence Omangi, Clifton ‘Obama’ Obama, Kelvin and John ‘Richie’ Otieno ahead of him. Across the midfield, a blockade of Crispin Kiarie, Griffin, Christian, Ryan and Samuel ‘Oti’ Otieno, with Nicholas fronting the attack. Returning and starting on the bench after missing a handful of games, it was encouraging to have Taji, Calvin and Yeseong back in the side.
The opening period was tightly contested, with both sides pressing high and looking to win the ball back quickly. Kisasa’s press caused WSH Elite problems in the build-up, and the boys came close to breaking the deadlock with a dipping effort that came back off the crossbar. At the other end, Lawrence and Obama were alert to cover the gaps, while Richie’s distribution from the back helped Kisasa play out under pressure. WSH Elite had their own spells but couldn’t find a way past a well-organised Kisasa defence, and the sides went in level at the break.
Two Goals Seal the Win
WSH Elite started the second half as the stronger side and pushed Kisasa back for a period, but the team weathered the pressure. With Yeseong on for Oti and Calvin replacing an injured Crispin, Kisasa grew back into the game and began creating better chances. Christian continued his determined performance from the first half, and space continually opened up in the WSH back line.
WSH Elite continued to compete during this spell, knocking the ball off the crossbar in an attempt ultimately ruled offside. Kisasa continued to push, getting as close as a chance stopped at the line by chaos in the box. Calvin’s effort flew narrowly over, and Taji was denied by an excellent save from the WSH Elite goalkeeper after a flowing passing move that looked destined for goal.
The breakthrough arrived when Taji sent in an arcing cross from the right wing, and Ryan converted to make it 1-0. Kisasa doubled their lead soon after as Taji tapped in following a driving run from Nicholas down the left wing and his low ball into the box. WSH Elite pulled one back in the closing stages, but it wasn’t enough to deny Kisasa the points.
The win lifts Kisasa FC to 4th in the Diamond Youth Football League table, securing a playoff spot.
The fixture details for next week’s playoff match will be confirmed in the coming days.
